In our Wikipediaized world, dance is a rare modern example of a traditional culture whose skills, rituals and standards are passed down from generation to generation through individual relationships. Like many other traditional cultures, the dancer's inner world is constantly under the threat of economic pressure and public indifference. These images try to show what dancers can create, and the environment that makes it possible for them to create it.

The choreographer is the designer of the movements used in a dance performance. In general, creating choreography is anything but glamorous; most of the time it's an intense, complex, sweaty process. But those involved find it challenging, gratifying and, ultimately, rewarding.
